the point house

WESTPORT, MA

A new home, replacing an original small structure on a long-held family property uses a compact footprint and a strategic roof design to create a modern and spacious interior while allowing itself to fit snugly within the existing vernacular and scale of the neighborhood. Natural cedar shingles and shiplap will wear and patina, and the standing seam metal roof will withstand the harsh elements including wind and salt air of its location.

The interiors are quiet and modern, welcoming a large and expanding family for holiday gatherings and beach getaways. The family of busy professionals reside all over the country, so this home was envisioned as a place of calm tranquility, to provide a break from the hustle of the every day. The primary interior material of white oak will last generations. The sustainable quartz countertops and porcelain tiles match the durability of the other natural materials. The spaces are designed to flexibly provide for expansive gatherings, as well as create opportunities for more quiet activities, including a Sunroom and a Library, both facing the sunrise in the east.

The home has nearly 360 degree views of the ocean. The apertures are designed to frame both the stunning sunrises and the sunsets. A private trek down the hillside leads directly to the beach.

This is an all-electric home with a 6.4kW solar panel array, 0.72 ACH50 & a HERS score of 22. Mineral Wool insulation is used at all areas possible, using foams minimally and only where needed for vapor and water protection.
