THE east branch HOUSE

WESTPORT, MA

Construction Completed- Professional Photography Forthcoming

The form of this Net-Positive new home was conceived to create a large South facing roof for solar panels. It sits on a compact “postage stamp” lot, utilizing a single East-West running gable with a low flat roof Entryway and roof deck. The home is designed with the Living spaces on the 2nd floor to maximize views to the East Branch of the river. Its form creates a secluded garden area at the rear, facing the fields, with privacy from the tightly adjacent properties. Natural cedar exterior materials allow the home to weather in response to the local vernacular. This is an all-electric home with a 10.79kW solar panel array oriented due-South. This system is estimated to produce 134% of the home’s electrical needs. The exterior wall cavities are filled Mineral Wool insulation, with an EPS foam continuous rigid insulation. The roof is constructed with a specialized truss system that allows for a fully vaulted interior ceiling, packed with 16” of continuous insulation- 4” of foam and 12” of Mineral Wool.
